A lot has been said about Wilmingtonians’ reactions to television and film celebrities who come to town. Some say we’re aloof. Others say we’re respectful.
I think it’s safe to say the Port City’s reputation has been that locals don’t really bother celebrities who might be eating in our restaruants, shopping in our stores and, in the most recent case, working out in our gyms. (Excluding, of course, the whole Vince Vaughn/Steve Buscemi fiasco at Firebelly Lounge back in 2001.)
Several people, including an editor here at the StarNews, have reported seeing actor Dwayne Johnson (pictured here in an AP photo) running on the treadmill at a local Gold’s Gym. In each case the person has said they did a double take, realized it was him, thought it was pretty cool and then moved on without bothering him.
Johnson, who is also known by his former wrestling name, The Rock, is in town for the filming of the 3D movie “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.”
