LeBron James helps the Rock celebrate Birthday!!!

espn.go.com

MIAMI — Was it World Wrestling Entertainment’s Monday Night Raw, or a University of Miami football pep rally?

It was hard to tell Monday, at least looking at the AmericanAirlines Arena crowd. Looking in the wrestling ring, too. That’s because Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was back for what he called “the biggest birthday celebration in the history of TV,” and the University of Miami defensive end-turned wrestling sensation-turned movie star (whose recent film “Fast Five” just banked an April record $83 million on its opening weekend) made no mistake about it: At heart, he’s a Miami guy.

And a Miami sports guy.

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James — a day after starring on the AmericanAirlines Arena court — gave a taped birthday greeting on the Triple-A jumbotron (with LeBron doing his best Dwayne Johnson when asking if we could smell what The Rock was cooking and Wade saying, “It’s good to see you back out there”). Dan Marino offered best wishes, too. Hip-hop artist/Miami native Pitbull performed, backed by the Heat dancers. When commentator/instigator Michael Cole revealed a Kevin Garnett Celtics jersey beneath his suit, the People’s Champion quickly quieted him with his signature “rock bottom” and “people’s elbow” moves.

And of course there was the “U,” as Johnson frequently flashed Miami’s famous hand signal (reminding some confused wrestling fans of Diamond Dallas Page’s gesture).

Johnson made it about more than Miami, though. On the heels of the Osama bin Laden news, he led the large crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. The evening also featured big matches, including John Cena vs. The Miz for the WWE Championship (Cena won, retaining the belt he claimed a night earlier). Mya later sang “Happy Birthday to You” (imagine the royalty fees) and WWE chairman Vince McMahon offered a personal thank-you.

But let’s not forget one more Miami connection: WrestleMania XXVIII, set for April 1, 2012, at nearby Sun Life Stadium. In addition to celebrating, Johnson spent the night promoting his coming battle with Cena.

“Just bring it,” Johnson told him.

Sounds like something Johnson has been saying since he was a national champion at the U.

The Tooth Fairy’s Dwayne Johnson

Posted: June 21, 2010

The man formerly known as The Rock braved ice skates – and a tutu

How was it working with Julie Andrews?

She’s great. I had never met her before but of course I had grown up watching [her] and mesmerized by the magic she has given us. I was so impressed meeting her. She’s beautiful on the outside and on the inside. She does a wonderful job of making everyone feel at ease. I think that is really the mark of someone who is special.

Tell us about your character?

The idea of the tooth fairy was interesting to me. The idea has been around Hollywood for decades. There have been a lot of actors attached to it, Bruce Willis, Jack Black and even Arnold Schwarzenegger years ago. But they were having a hard time cracking the story and how they should tell it. By the time it came to my desk we got great writers on board and the comedy really came through. I thought just as important as the comedy is the message: the importance of believing.

Did the sports angle come because of your involvement?

I’ve read many versions of earlier scripts where he was not a sports person. We all just felt that the idea of an athlete, a sports man who is incredibly arrogant, would help steer the story to being broad. The idea of a tooth fairy inherently skews to girls and fantasy so we wanted to make the story appeal to more people.

How much does the theme of following your dreams resonate to you?

It’s vital to me, the power of belief and believing. But it’s not only believing in dreams but in our potential – whether in children or adults – understanding our potential is a big thing for me and I can relate to it.

Was this your first time on the ice?

Yes. I’m not that good on skates at all! We had former hockey players playing with us. I tried to learn how to skate but I had ruptured my Achilles tendon when I shot The Game Plan and I had it reattached a couple of years ago. My movements were terrible on the ice. I looked very awkward. So we realized pretty early they needed some good stunt doubles. Often when I was on the ice I was wired to keep me steady.

You brought your daughter (Simone, 8) to the set?

She loved it. My daughter is more interested in the technical aspect. How did I fly? Is it a green screen? She’ll watch Harry Potter and watch all the behind the scenes extras on the DVD and she’s fascinated with that.

How was wearing the tutu?

It was absurd and pink and I had size 14 ballet slippers! But when you are making a comedy you can’t worry about looking cool.

As a parent, how important is it for you to make family movies?

I don’t necessarily think of making movies for my little girl but she can serve as a great litmus test. I can sit her down and read the script to her and watch her react and see where she thinks its funny. That helps me a great deal. Because I’m a dad now I understand how important it is to make a good family movie.

What do you like doing with your daughter?

She loves to horseback ride, she is a great rider. She loves video games and watching movies, going to her soccer games. I’m not big on going out, so we tend to do things pretty quietly.

Are you a strict parent?

Probably not as strict as I should be. I should be more firm, maybe not strict – but she’s daddy’s little girl. There is a very special relationship with a father and his little girl.

How much work do you put into maintaining your body?

Five days a week, two days on and take the third off. I train for about an hour and a half. For me training is a big part of my life and it anchors my day. It is sanctuary for me and people leave me alone and I don’t have to be on my blackberry.

The Rock” Reveals Sentimental Side

The Rock likes starring in soppy movies because he is a “sentimental kind of guy”.

The wrestler-turned-actor – real name Dwayne Johnson – is currently promoting his movie The Tooth Fairy, in which he plays a hockey player who is ordered to work as the tooth fairy after telling a young girl the creature doesn’t exist. He knows many people will tease him about the part, but says he loves starring in family movies because he knows how important they are to children.

“I’ve got kids, and I know how much these kinds of movies mean to them. And to children everywhere,” he explained. “There’s such a complete joy that comes over kids when they’re watching a movie they like. They’re not as cynical as us adults, and they just allow themselves to go with the jokes, with the sentimentality. And I like that, you know. I’m a sentimental kind of guy. And I like jokes. Perfect fit.”

The Rock joked he got into character by wearing his costumes, comprising wings and a tutu, away from the movie set and checking whether people had lost teeth. He added he considered revisiting some of his old wrestling opponents at their home, but eventually decided against it.

“I really should have done that, but, I just felt that should any of my old opponents wake in the middle of the night to see me looming over them, with wings on, they would have either died of a heart attack on the spot, or the rematch would have made quite a mess of the master bedroom,” he told Irish film website movies.ie. “Either way, I thought it safer not to bother them. They’d suffered enough already.”

Dwayne Johnson Enjoyed Working With Merchant

Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he enjoyed working with Stephen Merchant on their new movie Tooth Fairy.

Johnson is back in the family comedy movie which sees him star alongside Merchant, Ashley Judd and Julie Andrews.

Directed by Michael Lembeck the movie follows a minor-league hockey player who is sentenced to one week as a real life tooth fairy after discouraging the hopes of a child.

Speaking to Metro Johnson said: “I enjoyed working with Stephen Merchant. He was wonderful. I’ve been such a big fan of his acting.

“I had no idea he was Ricky Gervais‘s writing partner and responsible for a lot of the shows they had written.”

“I specifically wanted Stephen because he was so talented in Extras and I thought the physical juxtaposition between he and I would be funny on screen.

“Then, of course, I came to find out he’s incredibly brilliant and talented. And Julie Andrews was amazing. A beautiful, beautiful woman.”

Dwayne Johnson: I’d been arrested eight or nine times by the age of 16

Dwayne Johnson, 38, achieved fame in the 1990s as the professional wrestler known as The Rock. He later turned to acting, starring in Hollywood films including The Mummy Returns, Be Cool and Get Smart. He sports a tutu for his role in new film Tooth Fairy.

Your biceps are bigger than my thighs. Can I ask what you ate for lunch?
I had some chicken. I generally bring my own meals with me. I have someone great who prepares very detailed food.

Such as?
I generally eat clean. I don’t eat fried food or fast food or anything like that. I was raised in that environment from an early age. I think if you never really had it, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Isn’t pizza your cheat item?
It is. I love pizza. Sure. That’s my thing.

You worked with Julie Andrews and Stephen Merchant in Tooth Fairy. Do you have a particular fondness for Brits?
I definitely do for this movie. I enjoyed working with Stephen Merchant. He was wonderful. I’ve been such a big fan of his acting. I had no idea he was Ricky Gervais’s writing partner and responsible for a lot of the shows they had written. I specifically wanted Stephen because he was so talented in Extras and I thought the physical juxtaposition between he and I would be funny on screen. Then, of course, I came to find out he’s incredibly brilliant and talented. And Julie Andrews was amazing. A beautiful, beautiful woman.

Do you remember when you stopped believing in the Tooth Fairy and Father Christmas?
No, I don’t but interestingly enough my mum and dad did a really cool thing for me when I was eight. I started questioning Santa Claus so they called him and created a special visit at about 6pm. There was all this ringing of bells and loud noise. I looked outside and Santa Claus had shown up with my favourite toy that I had been talking about for the past couple of months. He sat me down on his lap and said: ‘I heard you don’t believe in me any more.’ I was blown away – and by the way, I was probably 5ft 10in when I was eight and sitting on his lap. So that extended the belief for a couple of years.

Would you lose your muscles for a part?
Sure, absolutely.

Wouldn’t it be hard to get them back?
No, not necessarily. Your muscles generally have a really good memory if you take care of them. But the material I get generally lends itself to my physique. I’m not getting a lot of suicidal accountant roles coming to me.

Did you see Mickey Rourke’s film, The Wrestler?
I did. I loved it. I thought it was fantastic. That movie resonated with me because that’s something I know intimately. That man was a lot of members of my own family. I’ve come from a long line of professional wrestlers and at that time, in the 1970s and 1980s, it was a very tough business. There wasn’t a lot of great financial planning going on back then. There was a lot of free spending and you find guys now in their fifties and sixties who are still trying to do it, still trying to have autograph sessions, trying to make money any way they can. Some of my uncles are still doing that and one of them trained Mickey for the movie.

Weren’t you a bit of a bad boy once?
Oh, I got in trouble a lot when I was younger. By the time I was 16, I had been arrested eight or nine times for a variety of things, terrible things that I shouldn’t have been doing. But I had people in my life who saw the potential in me when I didn’t see it. Much later in life, once I got out of college, I started to understand the power of seeing your potential and what that means.

Could you ever imagine needing some fairy amnesia dust?
I would love to use the amnesia dust. For a specific purpose. I’ve been in some relationships in the past and said some really ridiculous things to ex-girlfriends that I wish I could take back. Or make them forget.

Tooth Fairy is released today.

Dwayne Johnson Keeps Movie Costume

Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he kept a few mementos from his Tooth Fairy shoot.

The wrestler turned actor admits that he kept the pink tut and ballet slippers from the family comedy movie.

Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: “I did keep the outfit, you have to keep the pink tutu… because visually it just looks so absurd, size 14 pink ballet slippers, so I do have those.”

Johnson takes on the role of Derek Thompson who, after discourages a youngster’s hopes, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labour as a real tooth fairy.

The movie has an impressive lineup for Billy Crystal, Ashley Judd and Julie Andrews, who Johnson admits she was ‘magical’ to work with..

“It was such an honour to work with Julie Andrews. We had all grown up with her movies and her performances and the one thing that has always resonated and moved me, is the magic that she is masterful at.

“Her voice, her acting, her writing is incredible and it’s so passionate, and wonderful and inspiring as it relates to children.

“The great thing about Julie Andrews is, as brilliant and as successful as she is, to watch her on set and making everyone feel very very comfortable, was really magical.”

He added: “That’s the mark of somebody special. I love that woman, I love Julie.”

Tooth Fairy is released 28th May.

Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson teased over fairy role

Sun, May 23 02:29 PM

London, May 23 (PTI) Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as ”The Rock”, says he has been teased about his role as a tooth fairy in his latest movie. Johnson, who stars in new fantasy film ”The Tooth Fairy”, in which he dons a giant pair of wings to collect the incisors of small children has revealed not everyone has been supportive of the comic role, Female First online reported.

“There are definitely people who disagree with certain creative decisions you make.

pleasing everyone is pretty hard,” Johnson said.

Despite this, the 37-year-old actor is prepared to take on lots of different roles because nothing “fazes” him. “Because of my wrestling background, nothing a director can throw at me on a set can faze me.

I learned a long time ago how to be coachable.

I”m trying to be very smart and focused with my decisions, but it isn”t like I sat down and thought, ”OK, now I want to go and take over the family market”,” Johnson added.
