The Rock Talks About Paul Walker’s Death

Dwayne Johnson CinemaCon-2014 #34

In an interview with Yahoo Movies at CinemaCon, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson opened up about the death of his Fast & Furious co-star Paul Walker. Here are highlights:

On making sure Walker’s character has a fitting finale: “It’s very important for everybody involved, of course. It’s not easy, and it’s a challenge when you have something like this — a beloved person. Paul, as you guys know, he was truly one of the good guys — a great dude, who didn’t take himself seriously, loved what he did, understood the business of the business. You got the real deal, genuine guy when you got him. So it’s important for everybody to creatively honor him in the best way that we possibly can.”

On his movie family dealing with the loss: “[You deal with it] as best you can. We’ve all dealt with that kind of loss before, where it jolts us and it jolts our hearts. I think it also has a way of informing us. Loss like that also has a way of making us love better, love stronger, appreciate our loved ones and our family that much more, when we wake up and when we go to bed. How families deal with loss, everyone has their own process.”

On feeling sad for Walker’s daughter: “We had talked about that a multitude of times — how cool it is to be a dad. There’s that really special bond between a dad and his little girl. She’ll always be his little girl. … So my biggest pain was for his family and for his daughter, mom, and dad.”

Dwayne Johnson Teases Hercules Trailer Release Date

Dwayne Johnson Teases Hercules Trailer Release Date image

The last time that we saw the Greek hero Hercules up on the big screen was back in 1997 when Walt Disney Animation adapted the Greek myth as their 35th film. In two weeks time we will get our first look at what promises to be an extremely different vision for the legend when the first trailer for Brett Ratner’s Hercules arrives online.

This news was delivered by the film’s star himself, Dwayne Johnson, who is a bit of a legend himself when it comes to revealing stuff on Twitter (remember when he basically announced the death of Osama bin Laden to the world?). Earlier today the actor dropped the following message on his social media page:

Two weeks from today also happens to be the date of the Paramount Pictures presentation at the annual CinemaCon, which is an expo where all of the major studios reveal special footage from their biggest upcoming blockbusters. I’ll be on the ground covering the event in Las Vegas and fully expect to get to see the trailer up on the big screen that day, so stay tuned for our coverage!

Hercules is a new vision of the legend that is based on the comic “Hercules: The Thracian Wars” by Steve Moor and Admira Wijaya and adapted by Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos. The film will find the titular hero working as a mercenary for hire along with five faithful companions. The myth surrounding his name has long been able to strike fear into his enemies, but upon traveling to Greece he runs against a challenge that will test all of his might, as the ruler of Thrace hires him and his men to help defeat a vicious warlord. The strong, international supporting cast includes Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Aksel Hennie, and Reece Ritchie. The film is currently in post-production, but will be in theaters on July 25, 2015.

As for Johnson, Hercules is the next film up for theatrical release, but he has plenty more in the pipeline as well. The star is still working on Fast & Furious 7, which had its release date pushed back to April 10, 2015 following the death of Paul Walker and production delays last year. He will also soon start shooting the 3D earthquake disaster movie San Andreas – also scheduled to come out next year – and has stirred up some Green Lantern rumors that could have him taking part in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman/Superman movie.
