New Stills from Brett Ratner’s Hercules Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Brett Ratner

A new batch of stills from Hercules have found their way online tonight, offering up a great look at the movie which stars WWE Superstar turned Hollywood’s highest grossing actor, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

As well as an epic new shot of the titular hero (who really looks like he’s been through the wringer), we also get a look at Tobias Santelman as Rhesus and Rufus Sewell as the villainous Autolycus.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Johnson is quoted as describing Hercules as “the role of a lifetime”, adding: “This is darker, grittier and edgier than people might expect. When we first meet Hercules, he’s been exiled from Athens after being accused of committing a horrific crime. He’s a mercenary who’s lost his faith.”

“He doesn’t believe believe in gods or legends, just in spreading his own legend. But what makes a strong man is a willingness to get better. That and an ability to down a fifth of tequila in one night!”

Based on Radical Comics’ Hercules: The Thracian Wars series, the big screen adaptation will be directed by Brett Ratner and picks up with a slightly older and more experienced Hercules. There’s undoubtedly franchise potential here, especially with a star like The Rock in the titular role.

10 Of The Most Memorable Movie Appearances From WWE Superstars

1. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Fast Five/Fast & Furious 6)

Rock2

When James Wan brought back the original cast members for 2009’s Fast & Furious, it was clear that the filmmaker wanted to take the franchise in an exciting new direction which would appeal to more than just hardcore petrolheads.

Casting Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as U.S. DSS agent Luke Hobbs was a genius move which helped turn the series into the phenomenon it is today (the last two instalments have earned a total of over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office).

By this point in his career, Johnson had started taking on much better projects than the rubbish action movies and kids flicks he very nearly became best known for, but being cast as Hobbs would instead deservedly cement the former WWE Superstar as an A-List star in Hollywood.
